Tips to Help Your Child Succeed in School

1. Set a specific time and place each evening for homework.  Your child should be in a place that you can easily monitor them.   Sit with them while they work on assignment.  You can read a book or pay bills.

2.  Turn off the TV and radio during this time.

3.  Have them keep and assignment log or a planner.  

4. Have them use a bright colored marker or pen to cross out the assignment they have done.

5. Ask them to see the assignments they have completed.

6. Keep a monthly calendar on the refrigerator where they can write down test dates and when big projects are due.  ( this will help them prioritize assignments)

7.  Make sure they have enough pens, pencils, ect. in their notebook.

8. Communicate with your child's teacher.

Email them or call with questions or to ask for an update on your child's progress.

9.  Let your child know that you and the teachers are a team and that you are working together to help your child be successful.

10.  Celebrate success!!! Tell them you are proud of them.  They need to hear it.  Plan a special night out at a favorite restaurant or go banana splits at the ice cream store.
