Dedicated to excellence in education

  • Attention High School Parents: STAAR EOC Testing This Week

Carrizo Springs High School will be administering the Algebra I, U.S. History, and Biology STAAR End of Course (EOC) exams Tuesday, May 3rd through Thursday, May 5th.

Algebra I exam is Tuesday, May 3rd

U.S. History is Wednesday, May 4th

    Biology is Thursday, May 6th

Any student who needs to retest in Algebra I, U.S. History and/or Biology will also test on these days; they will be notified by their counselor if required to test.

Students have a four-hour time limit to complete the test. All electronic devices and phones (including smartwatches, AirPods, and earbuds) are prohibited during testing. We strongly encourage students to leave their phones and other electronic devices at home for testing days. If a student must bring a cell phone or any electronic device to school, it will be safely secured by the test administrator and/or room monitor and returned to your student after all testing is completed at the end of the day. Students should also leave their backpacks at home on testing days.

Passing the STAAR End of Course exams is required for your child to graduate. To help ensure your student has the best possibility to succeed on their EOC exams, make sure they eat a healthy breakfast each morning (breakfast is always available at school) and get a good night’s sleep. It is very important that your student arrives at school on time and that you encourage your child to do their best. Also, please do not schedule doctor or other personal appointments on test days. We respectfully request that you do not come to campus to pick up your student from school unless it is an emergency. Students testing will not be allowed to leave early from their assigned test rooms. If you have any questions about the STAAR EOC exams, please call the high school office at (830) 876-9393.

Students NOT testing in STAAR EOC Algebra I on Tuesday, May 3rd, U.S. History on Wednesday, May 4th, and Biology on Thursday, May 5th, may stay home in the morning and arrive on campus by 11:45 am each day. These students must remain on campus until 3:55 pm dismissal in order to be counted present for attendance. Students will be provided lunch in the cafeteria when they arrive. Regular classes will meet each afternoon after testing.  Transportation will be available for bus riders. Bus riders must be at their bus stop for pick up by 10:45 am. Students who are dropped off and picked up can be dropped off in front of the school by 11:45 each day. Students who drive to school must also arrive by 11:45 am each testing day. If your student is a Senior in the Co-Op program, arrangements have been made with their employer and teacher, Mrs. Priscilla Gonzalez, for attendance these days.

If your student owes make-up hours due to excessive absences this semester, they should make arrangements to come to campus each morning of STAAR testing and earn make-up hours each day. Instead of staying home, this is a good opportunity to make up the hours owed. Again, if you have any questions about the STAAR EOC exams or the schedule, please call the high school office at (830) 876-9393.

    Adrian Chapa

The Carrizo Springs High School community is saddened about the loss of one of our most beloved teachers. Adrian Chapa, math teacher, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 29, 2021. He was an amazing educator and loved by all his students and colleagues. Mr. Chapa taught us to care deeply, to work hard and never give up, and to laugh and not take ourselves too seriously. We will miss him greatly at Carrizo Springs High School; he will forever be in our hearts and will always be a Wildcat.

Our district counselors are available for emotional support for our students, faculty, and staff. Our deepest sympathies go to Mr. Chapa’s family.
